Africa Action Hosts Senator Sekai Masikana HollandNovember 3, 2009
Senator Sekai Masikana Holland Senator Sekai Holland shared the latest developments in Zimbabwe and prospects for reconciliation and national healing following the formation of the Inclusive Government after a decade of intense political polarization. Sekai Holland is a longtime political activist and human rights advocate. She represents Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s Movement for Democratic Change (MDC –T) in the Inclusive Government. Two years ago, Sekai Holland was brutally tortured in police detention at the height of political tensions in Zimbabwe. She was evacuated to South Africa for treatment of multiple injuries and then to Australia. She returned to Zimbabwe in July 2008 after an agreement was reached between the two MDC formations and President Mugabe’s Zanu PF. She was subsequently elected to the Senate and in February 2009 was appointed Minister of State for National Healing and Reconciliation. Because of her own personal history and the important position she occupies now in the Inclusive Government, Minister Sekai Holland is best placed to talk about peace, reconciliation and healing in Zimbabwe.
